Tip :: What are they doing standing on one leg?
WoW power walkers enrolled in WoW! Just Get Outside
are being treated to some excellent supplementary stability exercises
this winter. Aside from some initial concerns over our public
displays of flamingo-like behaviour, everyone is admitting that
it is truly beneficial and surprisingly challenging! So, here’s
a how-to guide on one of my favourites.
1/ Stand on one leg. (This, alone, is good to practice and even
fun!)
2/ Ensure you are balanced over the heel of the leg on which
you are standing. Pull abdominal muscles in toward your spine.
3/ Focus your eyes on the ground about 8 feet ahead of you.
4/
Pull the opposite knee up and then out to the side. Push that
heel out to your side slowly and with conviction (!) as if you
are kicking someone in slow motion or closing a door with style
(an alternative & less aggressive visualization).
5/
For an extra challenge: look out at your heel every time you push
it away from you.
6/ For an extra, extra challenge: hook a resistance tube around
the foot that you are pushing out sideways and hold it tight with
your hands.
7/ Repeat 8-12 times on each leg.
