Walkers at the Chilly Half Marathon
Soggy feet…triumphant smiles!

Thirty-three power walkers attacked the slick and sloppy streets of Burlington, Ontario to put their excellent technique to the test in the Chilly Half Marathon on March 2. Everyone was pleased with their performance and probably really pleased that the temperature dropped to -24 when the race was over! We don’t need to take this chilly thing too far. Several participants commented on the medals in the shape of a chilli – nice touch! Just how many people actually ate chilli at the end is still undetermined! You can take the chilli thing too far, too! Congratulations to everyone on a fantastic race, you all looked strong!
Look out National Capital!

WoW Tip! Do your toes tingle when you walk? If so, your metatarsal arch may be falling and pinching the nerves leading out to your toes. Your metatarsal arch goes across the ball of your foot – yes, there is an arch there! Relief from this sensation can be found at your nearest pharmacy in the form of a metatarsal arch support …usually around $10. Just stick it on the insoles of your running shoes.

New courses!
Yes…it’s that time for all hibernating walkers to crawl out from under the blankies, give up the remote and head outside! New courses are now online at www.wowpowerwalking.com. You’ll find some new locations and some new coaches. We’re all psyched and excited to get everyone out walking and training for some of the great spring and fall events. Remember! You don't have to be training for an event to get a lot out of the WoW courses. We want you to achieve your fitness goals, we want you to have fun in a supportive environment, and we want you to take home information that will improve the quality of your life.

Enjoying the Winter Solstice Walk

Coffee and muffins anyone? Do we dare?? Would we be tempting fate to hold a coffee and muffin walk on Sunday, March 23? Every Sunday for possibly the last 10 weeks we have experienced a blizzard or record-setting temperatures. What the heck! It would be nice to see everyone and, technically, it should be spring! According to my notes, people training for the full marathon in Ottawa should be walking 36 km that day, people training for the half should be walking 14 km, so I will have routes mapped out for those distances, and a 5 km route for any friends who may want to see what we’re all about. This time we’ll start at the park at the base of the Bronte Bluffs. If you want to come, email Lee to RSVP and get the details.
