WoW - What's Up March Newsletter

April 13, 2005

We need some happy people to walk and devour a few good muffins and cookies - can you help?

We need some happy people to walk and devour a few good muffins and marathon cookies. This is just a reminder that a WoW coffee and muffin walk is happening this weekend in High Park. If you have never come out to one of these walks, this should be the weekend. As of today the weather looks promising so a walk through the woods of High Park and along the shores of Lake Ontario is enticing. This Sunday, April 17th we will have maps for 5k, 10k, 12k. When you return from the walks we will have the traditional coffee, water, muffins, and marathon cookies for snacks. (There will also be a 36 km route for anyone walking the Mississauga Marathon … it will have loop back for a muffin at 12 km and then continue from there … you’ll be on your own after that, so bring your cell phone.) There is no cost for this event although this time we will have a donation box in place for the Relay for Life Teams that are walking in memory of Wendy Joyce on June 3rd. All proceeds will go to the Cancer Society. Anyone donating at least $5 will get a WoW organic cotton handkerchief! If you would like to make a larger donation to our teams and receive a tax receipt, we can take your information for online donation processing.

So here are the walk details: Meet near the Grenadier Park Café in High Park at 7am, Sunday April 17th. We usually try to find a picnic table to set up in the grassy area by Centre Road across from the Café. Usually we are visible from the parking lot although we do not post any signs in accordance with park policy. We try to start promptly so that everyone finds a walking friend. Please sign up on the sheet before you leave for your walk so that we know who is out there on the streets, and check your name off when you have returned (so we don’t send out a search party for you!).

Friends, family, dogs are all welcome. Please RSVP info@wowcompany.net so that we have sufficient snacks. Dogs do not require an RSVP as there are no dog snacks.

An Afternoon at the Movies!! We have acquired a copy of Cary Grant’s last movie, Walk, Don’t Run. Here’s what the back cover says: “Charming ladies’ man Academy Award winner Cary Grant becomes a charismatic matchmaker in his final screen appearance in Walk, Don’t Run. When English industrialist Sir William Rutland (Grant) arrives in Tokyo on business, the influx of tourists for the upcoming Olympic games makes it impossible to find lodging. So Rutland fast-talks his way into sharing an apartment with beautiful Christine Easton (Samantha Eggar) for a few days. To further confuse matters, Rutland invites Steve Davis (Jim Hutton), a member of the U.S. Olympic team, to share his apartment. Three’s definitely a crowd as Rutland plays cupid between Christine and Steve – much to Christine’s Stodgy fiance’s surprise.”

So where does the walking come in? Steve is an Olympic race walker! Your only opportunity to see this movie in the company of lots of fun people is Saturday May 1 from 2-4 pm at the Oakville Central Library. Cost is $10 and snacks will be available for sale…all proceeds will go to the WoW for Wendy Relay for Life teams (Cancer Society) Detailed directions will be posted on the website. Seating is limited to a mere 80 … so email soon to book your place.
